Balancing creative vision with practical realities

Constraints & Learnings

Technical Feasibility: The importance of aligning design vision with technical infrastructure.

Strategic Design: Gained a deeper understanding of designing for product sustainability within organizational constraints.

Redefining health communication through data and trust

Conclusion & Retrospective

BOK is a project designed to bridge the gap between various user-generated health signals and understandable language through daily routines.

Through this project, I identified the critical importance of maintaining a trustworthy tone in the health domain—where uncertainty often exists—while designing AI interactions that preserve user agency.

Data-to-Action Pipeline

System Architecture

Contextual Data Ingestion

(01)

Beyond simple numbers, this stage captures the context of a user's eating habits and daily routines. This serves as the essential "raw material" that allows data to be translated into actual behavior.

Dynamic Action Generation

(03)

Based on the analyzed data, the system creates behavioral guidelines best suited to the user's current status. This is a key step that provides actionable, real-time guidance rather than vague health information.

AI-Driven Interpretive Engine

(02)

The system uses AI to integrate and analyze complex, fragmented signals. In this process, raw data is transformed into "digestible feedback" that users can easily understand at a glance.

Continuous Adaptive Loop

The system monitors daily and weekly progress to see if the suggested actions are turning into real habits. Through this loop, the system builds a more refined algorithm that evolves along with the user’s changes.

(04)

How might we design an experience that effectively translates wearable health data into actionable daily behaviors?

HOW MIGHT WE

The autonomic nervous system (ANS) influences every aspect of daily life, including sleep, stress response, digestion, and recovery.

However, users find it difficult to intuitively understand their own ANS state. While existing wellness apps provide metrics such as HRV, sleep, and stress, it remains unclear how this data connects to a user’s current condition or their daily choices.

Problem Definition

As a result, users experience the following pain points:

Lack of Actionable Insights

(02)

Poor interpretation prevents data from translating into actual behavior.

Data without Meaning

(01)

Data is available, but interpreting its significance is difficult.

Low Retention

(03)

Without clear value, using the app fails to become a consistent routine.

BOK is a wellness experience design project that translates wearable data (HRV, sleep, stress, etc.) and user dietary logs into human-readable language, providing personalized daily solutions to maintain autonomic balance.
